It’s time to dust off the golf clubs and practice that swing for a good cause. The Fifth Annual Juli Busken Memorial Scholarship Tournament and Lunch is slated May 16 at Belmar Golf Club, 1025 E. Indian Hills Road, Norman. Two tee times are scheduled in this year’s tournament. The morning tee time begins with a shotgun start for the four-person scramble at 7:30 a.m. Lunch will follow at 11 a.m. An auction will kick off at noon followed by a second tee time at 1 p.m. The tournament honors Busken, who was kidnapped from her Norman apartment in December of 1996 and brutally slain. Busken, a student-ballerina, completed her senior year at University of Oklahoma a few days prior to her death. Sheriff Joe Lester served as OU’s police chief when Busken was murdered. Lester said he became friends with Busken’s family during the homicide investigation and remains close with them today. Lester said all funds collected from the golf tournament will be donated to the Juli Busken Memorial Scholarship at the OU School of Dance. The annual tournament began in 2012. Donors have contributed a total of $250,000 to the scholarship fund in the past five years. “I never had the honor of meeting Juli but I’ve gotten to know her through her family’s memories,” Lester said. “This tournament keeps her legacy alive and most important covers tuition costs for University of Oklahoma students who are working hard to further their education and complete degrees.” Tournament sponsorships range from $10 to $1,000.For a registration form, call Bill Tucker at (405) 329-6800 or (405) 919-1746.
