The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office values the sanctity of human life, and no Sheriff’s Deputy takes the use of deadly force lightly. Our condolences go out to the family of Kyle Elrod.
We are grateful to the Oklahoma City Police Department for its independent review of our deputies’ actions in this officer-involved shooting. We highly value transparency and accountability and believed that a third party was best suited to conduct the primary investigation into Mr. Elrod’s death during a traffic stop on July 22, 2020.
Based on OKCPD’s report, District Attorney Greg Mashburn has determined that the shooting was justified.
Two deputies remain on paid administrative leave as our internal review continues in this case.
